Peak to Shore Music Festival ready to roll with headliner Sarah Harmer

Event date: August 12-14, 2011

BLUE MOUNTAINS, ON, July 25, 2011  - The Blue Mountain Village, in partnership with the charming town of Thornbury is excited to have Sarah Harmer top the bill at the Third Annual Peak to Shore Music Festival which runs events stage in the centre of the Blue Mountain Village.

Recently designated as one of the 2011Top 100 Ontario Festivals, Peak to Shore will once again feature a dazzling array of Canada’s finest independent recording artists. With the help of new Artistic Director Drew McIvor, the festival is boasting a hot line up from pop and rock to funk and soul, blues and bluegrass to comedy and folk.  “The key to a great event is amazing talent and lots of variety”, explains McIvor. “We’ve got boat loads of both this year!”

Festival organizers are equally thrilled to have the participation of no less than 6 venues in downtown Thornbury, participating in a Friday, August 12 late night “Thornbury Cider Music Crawl”.  Fans will easily be able to walk from one venue to the other and dabble in the live music, food and drink each has to offer with its own unique atmosphere. Venues for this event are Sisi on Main, Bridges, Bruce Wine Bar, The Cheese Gallery, The Dam Pub, and the newly renovated Mill Restaurant.

Most Canadians are no strangers to the wonderful talent of the festival’s headlining act, singer songwriter and environmental activist Sarah Harmer.  After rocking with her 90‘s indie band Weeping Tile, she stole our hearts with a collection of roots and folk ballads produced as a gift for her father. The album Songs for Clem became a national treasure and set her up for real fame with her 2000 release You were Here, which included hits like “Basement Apartment” and “Don’t Get Your Back up”.

Her fourth album, I'm a Mountain, an album rooted in folk and bluegrass was released in 2005 and subsequently nominated for the distinguished Polaris Music Prize. Harmer’s dedication to the preservation of the Niagara escarpment became a focal point for the artist at this time. She penned the song “Escarpment Blues”, co-founded PERL (Protecting Escarpment Rural Land), and embarked on a hiking tour of the Bruce Trail performing at theatres and community halls in towns along the way.
Last year, Harmer released her fifth album, Oh Little Fire, which received 3 Juno nominations.

King Sunshine will headline the Friday night outdoor stage in the Blue Mountain Village.
King Sunshine’s sound and performance is truly of universal appeal. Performing to a 10,000+ festival crowd at the Montreal International Jazz Festival to sold-out performances at the hottest nightclubs in Canada, this nine piece power-house is a live gateway to the groovin’ sounds of disco, funk, house and club beats. They are guaranteed to get the party started in style.

More performers sure to turn heads include special guest pop rocker Suzie McNeil performing on the Thornbury Royal LePage Stage Saturday afternoon, soul singer Shane Philips, comedy duo The Funny Ones, bluegrasser’s Moonshiners Daughter, the infectious Coco Love Alcorn, folk crooner Romney Getty, finger picker Wendall Ferguson, CBC songwriting winner Ian Reid, and many more.
