Raise Your Glass for Rhinos at the Toronto Zoo to support the endangered species

Toronto Zoo Weekly Feature - Wednesday, 2014-06-11

Thursday, June 26, 2014
6:00pm to 10:30pm

Join us for a unique evening at the Toronto Zoo where you will raise your glass in support of the critically endangered rhino.

Tickets to this special night, only $70 each*, will include appetizers, wine tastings, a silent auction, a special Zoomobile tour to our Indian and White Rhino Exhibits as well as a Meet The Keeper Experience. We will also be holding a live auction where one lucky person will get the chance to have a one-on-one close encounter with the rhinos that evening! Proceeds from the event will support The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, located in Kenya, which protects many different species including 73 black rhinos and 61 white rhinos.

This engaging and educational evening will provide participants with a unique opportunity to learn the nuances of wine flavours with four different wines, as well as learning how you can help save and protect rhinos. Fortessa Canada is the proud glassware provider for the Raise Your Glass For Rhinos event. Four Schott Zwiesel glasses, which are lead free Tritan crystal glassware stems, will be featured during the event. You will be able to take the glassware from the event home with you, courtesy of Fortessa Canada. The host, Michael Pinkus, will explain how the shape of the glass can enhance the taste of the wine. It's the perfect evening to spend with friends, family or colleagues all while supporting rhino conservation.

As a leader of conservation, the Toronto Zoo, Canada's premier Zoo, is committed to helping spread the message on preserving our natural world. The Raise Your Glass For Rhinos is the main fundraising event of the Toronto Zoo's Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK).

. TORONTO ZOO’S AQUA-LINKS PROGRAM RELEASE
ATLANTIC SALMON FRY INTO THE WILD
On Tuesday, June 10, 2014 grade two and three students from the Brimwood Boulevard Junior Public School released over 80 Atlantic Salmon into the wild at the Greenwood Conservation Area is Ajax.  Releasing the Atlantic salmon into the wild was an important moment that the students have been working towards as they have been raising the salmon, in their classroom, since January 2014. The Toronto Zoo’s Aqua-Links Program is an exciting conservation effort which links students in Ontario with students in Uganda to discuss water conservation. Focusing on these two Great Lakes regions of the world, the program fosters stewardship and appreciation for water as a precious resource, as well as for the fish that call these lakes home.
This year in particular has been extremely successful with 23 schools in six different school boards releasing over 2,600 Atlantic salmon fry into tributaries of Lake Ontario through the Aqua-Links Program including, Credit River, Duffin’s Creek and Cobourg Creek.
