Third Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs location to open in Toronto

(News Release)

Toronto, ON – With baseball season just around the corner, and spring fast approaching, Toronto foodies will soon be treated to a new Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs situated in the heart of downtown Toronto at 453 Queen Street West – on the second hippest street in the world (Queen West) as voted by Vogue Magazine.

The doors will open at the beginning of March. This expansion brings their unique restaurant to a new part of town and the launch of a new Poutine menu as they continue to serve good old fashioned style Hot Dogs that have customers lining up.

This restaurant concept was inspired by one of Americas’ most famous Hot Dog eating destinations, Coney Island.

Angelos Economopoulos opened the very first Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs restaurant in 2012 at 326 College Street across from the very cool Kensington Market; with the vision of appealing to everyone and bringing a little New York taste to Canada.

Economopoulos’ main goal was simply to create delicious, locally sourced Hot Dogs that would please even the pickiest of eaters. From a Greek salad on a Hot Dog “Frankathenapolis” to the now popular “Fancy 90210” with avocado, tomato and bacon, there is a special themed Hot Dog for everyone.  The restaurant has recently been featured on Food Networks critically acclaimed show “You Gotta Eat Here!”  Some of the celebrities that have indulged in a Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dog include:  Katy Perry, Octavia Spencer, John Catucci, Adam Egoyan, Roger Peterson, Richard Crousse, DB Woodside and Leah Miller
“In Toronto, you can get a Hot Dog on pretty much every street corner. I wanted to bring something new to the city that really changes the way Torontonian’s see and eat the Hot Dog,” says Angelos Economopoulos. “I am very excited about this new location, as well as many more I hope to open in the future so that new people can enjoy our unique approach to the Hot Dog experience.”

Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs menu features sixteen Hot Dog creations including their much loved Frankie Goes to Buffalo (chicken bacon, carrots, celery, blue cheese dressing, wing sauce with a panko fried Frank), the Southern Fancy (BBQ pulled pork and house-made cabbage slaw).

In addition to these there will be a new Hot Dog recipe, the Franko Y Heuvos (scrambled egg, chopped Hot Dog, ground chorizo, Sriracha grilled peppers, onions, jalapenos and cayenne).

Through high customer demand, Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs will be launching a new Poutine menu, which will included nine unique poutines that will keep patron’s mouths salivating.  The creations priced from $5.75 - $11.50 include: Fancy Schmancy (Korean beef ribs, fried egg, grilled onions, squeaky curds, gravy and scallions) which was introduced during La Poutine Week 2014. The Porker (ground chorizo, bacon, grilled onions, squeaky curds, gravy and scallions) which is featured during La Poutine Week 2015.

BBQ South (BBQ pulled pork, squeaky curds, gravy, deep fried pickle spear), Not So Fancy (chopped Hot Dog, bacon, ground chorizo, pepperoni, cheddar cheese, gravy and scallions), Kimchi & Noodles (kimchi, egg noodles, teriyaki sauce, squeaky curds, gravy, sesame seeds and scallions), Ultimate Grilled Cheese (chopped grilled cheese sandwich, squeaky curds, gravy and tomato slices), The Wild Turkey (chopped grilled turkey sausage, cajun spiced fries, squeaky curds, gravy and pepperoncini).

The restaurant also offers many other quality options including house-made chili, fresh tossed salad, parlour style ice cream and classic milkshakes. Customers can also indulge in fresh made to order mini donuts with toppings such as Nutella, cinnamon, vanilla glazed, lemon curd, and strawberry jelly.

About the design: The original restaurant concept is designed by MarcKyr Inc, who is also responsible for the work at NSC Gallery, Volos Estiatorio and Portland Variety.  Along with impressive twelve foot ceilings there is a long distressed reclaimed barn wood communal table with iron finishes, slicing the lofty rectangular restaurant in two. Upon entering there is an eye catching mural greeting all guests, conceptual design kudos to Community Agency for this and all branding of Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs.  The space has a capacity to sit 25 guests and a great flow to handle the high volume take-away customers. Inside all menu/sign artwork is crafted by artist Andrew Kidder, a.k.a. RCade, who is also responsible for the artwork at The Drake Hotel, La Carnita and Beaconsfield.

About Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs: Created by Angelos Economopoulos to be Torontos’ premiere gourmet Hot Dog take-away restaurant, Fancy Franks Gourmet Hot Dogs is changing the way city foodies view Frankfurters. These Hot Dogs are hand twisted with 100% all beef shoulder-cut meat then housed in an all-natural lamb casing, and many of the signature toppings are made in-house.  Economopoulos’ started a charity fundraiser in 2013 that has raised $4,500 to date for Sick Kids Foundation while giving away over 5000 free Hot Dogs to the community on National Hot Dog Day.  This new restaurant concept has been embraced by Downtown Toronto and is poised to make major waves in the coming years within the Gourmet Quick Service Industry.
