Pirates lay siege at Discovery Harbour, Penetanguishene July 30th; become a buccaneer for the day

(News Release)
The uneasy crew at Discovery Harbour is sending out a word of warning throughout southern Georgian Bay that a band of renegade seadog pirates will arrive at their beloved establishment on Saturday July 30th.

This fearsome event, aptly named Pirates of the Bay, will encompass the entire site with a crew in full pirate costume. The site will boldly display the skull and crossbones and the Tall Ships will be manned for a pirate skirmish.

Visitors of all ages brave enough to take part will be expected to unleash their inner pirate as they become buccaneers for the day complete with a new, colourful pirate name.  Commanded by the infamous Cap’n Corbin and with all hands on deck, activities will include a pirate school where landlubbers will learn pirate lingo and thrill to freebooter magic shows, crafts and even a tattoo parlour.

Leading the charge at Discovery Harbour, Will Baird – General Manager and also known as William Black Beard – will be on the lookout from the crow’s nest as a pirate skirmish is expected between the HMS Badger and the Historic Military Establishments of Upper Canada.
“We are thrilled to be presenting this family event and invite young and old to join us for this very action-packed day at Discovery Harbour,” notes Baird.  “Pirates of the Bay is a fun-filled community initiative for the entire family and will lead up to our Pumpkinferno event this Fall, which also promises to thrill visitors with amazing pumpkin displays,” informs Baird.

Pirates of the Bay is being presented in partnership with the Town of Penetanguishene and the Urban Slide with a shuttle offered between Discovery Harbour and the town dock.  The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 30th.

Admission for the day is seven pieces of gold (or $7) for mature pirates and $5.25 for junior crew 12 years and under.  Pirates five years and under, too young to carry a sword, will enjoy the day at no charge.  For more information about special events at Discovery Harbour, please visit the new-fangled website at www.hhp.on.ca or get on the blower and call (705) 549-8064.
